Santa Clara Police Department Receives Grant to Fight Alcohol-Related Crime

Santa Clara Police Chief, Michael J. Sellers, announced the Santa Clara Police Department has been awarded a $92,230 grant from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to battle alcohol-related crime.

ABC’s Grant Assistance Program (GAP) was created in 1995 to strengthen partnerships between ABC and local law enforcement agencies. ABC agents have expertise in alcoholic beverage laws and can help communities reduce alcohol-related problems.

The Santa Clara Police Department plans to use the funding to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods by reducing the alcoholic beverage sales to minors and obviously intoxicated patrons, and by bringing penalties such as fines, suspensions or revocations against businesses that violate laws.

“This program increases protection of our youth and penalizes problematic alcoholic beverage sales locations that may have negatively impacted crime rates,” Sellers said.

The GAP Program has distributed over $30 million to local law enforcement to combat alcohol-related crime.
