The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

August 6, 2015

2017 Hours: Officer Johnson responded to Macy’s for a store employee detained by loss prevention for theft. Officer Johnson investigated and arrested an 18 year old male from Fremont for embezzlement. He was issued a citation and released.

0357 Hours: Officer Kovach responded to a residence in the 36300 block of La Salle Dr, for a vehicle theft report. The vehicle, a blue 1992 Honda Accord station wagon, was taken sometime during the night

August 7, 2015

1114 Hours: Officer Knutson investigated a theft from Public Storage, 38290 Cedar Blvd. Sometime between 07/29 and 07/30 the lock to a unit was cut. Loss was purses, perfume and other misc. items.

1126 Hours: Officers responded a disturbance involving a male and female on Moores Ave. Officer Todd arrested a 20 year old male from Castro Valley violation of a court order, 166(a)(4) PC. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.

1300 Hours: Officer Bloom investigated a theft of a vehicle from the parking lot of Pic-N-Pull on Mowry Ave. that occurred around 1200 hours. The victim had left the keys in the vehicle, a grey 2002 Hyundai Sonata.

1548 Hours: Officer Bloom served an arrest warrant at 5823 Sunrose Ave. and arrested a 50 year old male from Newark on his 11377(a) H&S (possession of methamphetamine) and 11364 H&S (possession of drug paraphernalia) warrant. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.

1851 Hours: Officer Simon wrote a search warrant for 37444 Cherry St to look for various pieces of stolen property based upon a stolen trailer that was found at the residence on 07/24/15. The warrant was served by a mixture of patrol and SET. A 31 year old Newark resident was contacted working on a vehicle in the backyard. He was found to be in possession of several stolen items from the search warrant including two transmissions. He was arrested for the stolen property and possession of a methamphetamine pipe. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.


0155 Hours: As Officer Khairy and Officer Rodgers were assisting Fremont PD with an auto versus motorcycle collision north of I-84 on Ardenwood Blvd when a newer Mercedes was observed speeding recklessly southbound on Newark Boulevard past the collision site. The 18 year old driver from Union City was contacted on a traffic stop and determined to under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

August 8, 2015

0555 Hours: Officers responded to a solo motorcycle accident on Newark Blvd just north of Thornton Avenue. The driver of the motorcycle a 45 year old male from Newark was located at the scene with major injuries. He was transported to a local trauma center. He is expected to survive from the collision.

1030 Hours: Detective Ramos contacted a 40 year old female from Newark and a 31 year old male from Newark during a traffic enforcement stop. Both subjects are on searchable probation with for drug related offences. A probation search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of crystal methamphetamine, two methamphetamine smoking pipes, and one hypodermic needle with liquid methamphetamine. Both were arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail for 11377 H&S (possession of methamphetamine) and 11364.1 H&S (possession of drug paraphernalia).

1307 Hours: Officer Losier contacted a 22 year old male who is transient during a traffic enforcement stop. The male had two warrants for his arrest. He was taken into custody for his warrants and booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1543 Hours: Officers responded to the 37100 block of Locust St. regarding a male who was smoking marijuana inside his vehicle. Detective Ramos arrived on scene and contacted several people inside the vehicle. The 19 year old male owner of the vehicle, from Newark, was cited for possession of marijuana in a vehicle.

0150 Hours: Sergeant Macias conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Jaguar XF that was speeding and swerving northbound on Cherry St resulting in the arrest of a 25 year old male from Fremont for DUI and his passenger a 30 year old male from Foster City for being drunk in public. Both were booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0157 Hours: Officer Simon conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevy Equinox and contacted the driver a 30 year old male from San Jose who was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was placed under arrest and was booked at Fremont PD Jail.


August 9, 2015

0731 Hours: Officer Fredstrom observed a 29 year old Newark resident walking in front a residence he is restrained from. He was subsequently arrested for 166(a) (4) PC, violation of a court order and booked at Fremont Jail.

1223 Hours: NPD Officers responded to the Safeway shopping center for a reported robbery. The Victim called to report that a Hispanic male adult attempted to steal her purse after she had gotten into her vehicle. The suspect followed the victim to her vehicle and then opened her passenger door as she sat down in the driver’s seat. The victim had noticed the suspect prior and had kept her purse on her left shoulder as she entered the vehicle. The suspect attempted to pull the purse away from the victim but was unsuccessful. The suspect fled to a waiting older model two door Honda Civic gray in color. The suspects fled towards Hwy 84. Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to contact the Newark Police Department. This incident is being actively investigated.

1427 Hours: Officer Fredstrom conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for displaying expired registration. The driver was unlicenced. The passenger agreed to drive, but when her record was chck it was determined the 25 year old female from Newark had an outstanding warrant for 20002(a) CVC (hit and run), 16025(c) CVC (no insurance) and 14601.1(a) CVC (suspended license) out of the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office. The passenger was issued a citation for the warrant.

1608 Hours: Officer Fredstrom conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for displaying expired registration on Lafayette Avenue and Ruschin Drive. The driver, a 38 year old female from Newark, was found to be on probation with a search clause. She was arrested for 14601.1(a) CVC (suspended license), 23222(b) CVC (possession of marijuana in a vehicle) and 11364.1(a) H&S (possession of drug paraphernalia). She was issued a citation and released.

2234 hours: Officer Slater observed a large plume of dust at the far west end of Central Ave and Willow Street, where a Mercedes was “spinning donuts.” The vehicle stopped before entering back onto Central Avenue, allowing Officer Slater an opportunity to pull behind the Mercedes to conduct a traffic stop. As Officer Slater was maneuvering behind the Mercedes, the vehicle fled eastbound on Central Ave at a high rate of speed. Officer Slater quickly lost sight of it and did not pursue. The vehicle was located abandoned on Filbert St just north of Central Ave and it appeared to have just been involved in a collision. At approximately 2244 hours, Officer Jackman and his partner Eliot, with the assistance of Officer Smith and Officer Rodgers began to track the driver. The K-9 search team acquired the suspect’s scent and tracked northbound on Filbert St toward bushes approximately 100 yards away from the vehicle. K-9 Eliot located and apprehended the 21 year old Newark resident and registered owner of the vehicle, hiding in the bushes. He was placed under arrest for 23152(a) VC (DUI), 20002 VC (Hit and Run), 148(a)(1) PC (resisting arrest), 11350 H&S (possession of drugs), and 12500 VC (driving without a license). He was booked at Santa Rita Jail after being medically cleared at a local hospital.

August 10, 2015

1003 Hours: Officer Losier located a stolen green 1997 Honda Civic at the Boat House Parking lot. The vehicle was stolen from Hayward CA and had been involved in an accident and dumped.

1003 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated an attempted vehicle theft at 38594 Cedar Blvd Masterkey Construction. One of the company trucks was found with a screw driver in the ignition occurred over night.

1234 Hours: Officer Katz investigated a window smash vehicle burglary in the Safeway parking lot located at 5877 Jarvis Ave. The loss was a laptop computer.

1311 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 48 year old female from Bisbee, CA for her outstanding warrant. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1540 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated a residential burglary in the 36300 block of Cherry Street.

1815 Hours: Officer Smith handled a Citizen’s arrest/shoplifting investigation at the NewPark Mall Macy’s store. A 33 year old female from San Jose was cited and released for 484(a)PC- petty theft and 602(m)PC- trespassing.

1922 Hours: Officer Norvell investigated a domestic violence incident on St Luke Ct. A 34 year old male from Newark was arrested for felony domestic violence and booked at Fremont Jail. The victim was granted an emergency protective order and the suspect was served with the order.
