The Kern County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public of an emergency closure order issued by the US Forest Service.
The US Forest Service has issued an emergency closure order. The Piute Mountains, including all trails and roads leading into the Piute Mountains, are closed until further notice. Additionally, the Pacific Crest Trail is closed from Hwy. 58 north to Bird Springs Pass until further notice.
Opening day for bow/archery season is August 15 and the Sheriff's Office is anticipating people traveling to the area for opening day.
The Sheriff's Office is continuing to search in the Kelso Valley Rd. and Jawbone Canyon Rd. area for a suspect wanted for kidnapping, murder, and a shooting involving Sheriff's Office SWAT deputies.
The Sheriff's Office is advising people who live in the area or may be traveling to the area to bow hunt to avoid the Piute Mountains and the Pacific Crest Trail as well as the search area while the search is ongoing.
