TWO ARRESTED IN HOWARD TOWNSHIP HOME INVASION

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood J.R. reports that on 8/8/2015 at 6:10 P.M. his deputies responded to a home invasion in progress at 28000 block of Coulter.

An off duty reserve deputy observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the grass of a residence. The deputy knew that the homeowners were out of town and the vehicle did not belong there. When he confronted the three suspects, they fled from scene in their vehicle. The deputy followed the vehicle until it crashed on M-60 near Oak Grove in Jefferson Township. After the vehicle crashed, the three suspects fled on foot into the woods behind a residence. With the assistance of nearby agencies, the Sheriff's Office was able to locate and arrest two of the three suspects. The two men, whose names will be withheld pending formal arraignment, are aged 21 and 17 years.

The Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police K9 Unit, Pokagon Tribal Police, and Cassopolis Village Police assisted the Sheriff's Office with this incident. It remains under investigation.
