The Ardmore Police Department requested OSBI investigative and crime scene investigations involving an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning. Just before 10 a.m., a woman called from a home in the 1000 block of Bailey Street in Ardmore saying her son, Eric Thompkins, was suicidal. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Thompkins, 41, outside. He ignored commands to keep his hands out of his pockets and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. One officer fired his weapon striking Thompkins. He was transported to Mercy hospital in Ardmore where doctors pronounced him dead. Officers also learned Thompkins had ingested a large amount of rat poison before they arrived at the house. OSBI will conduct a thorough investigation and present the district attorney with the facts. The district attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
