The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

July 30 – August 5, 2015


July 30, 2015

1817 Hours: Detective Heckman contacted a 41 year old transient male in the Newark Square Shopping Center. He had 4 warrants. He was arrested for the warrants and booked at Santa Rita Jail.

2055 Hours: Officers responded to a residence in the 35600 block of Haley Street for a welfare check regarding a 30 year old male from Newark acting strangely. Officer Taylor determined the male was under the influence of drugs and arrested him for 11550 H&S and he was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

0223 Hours: Officer Jackman investigated a hit-and-run collision involving two parked vehicles on Ruschin Drive. While at the scene, he located a divot in the road which led around the block to the driveway in the 5400 block of McDonald Avenue. The vehicle in the driveway was missing the front passenger tire. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 23 year old, male from Newark. Officer Jackman will be sending the investigation to the District Attorney’s Office for a possible warrant for hit and run.

July 31, 2015

1256 Hours: Officer Allum contacted and arrested a 26 year old resident of San Jose for an outstanding arrest warrant. She was issued a notice to appear in court and released from the scene.

1256 Hours: Officer Todd contacted and arrested a 41 year old female from Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. She was issued a notice to appear in court and released from the scene.

1836 Hours: Officer Mavrakis responded to the Home Depot parking lot for a disturbance in progress. Officer Mavrakis contacted a 24 year old male from Newark and arrested him for an outstanding warrant. He was booked at Fremont Police Department Jail.

1915 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated a theft of a white Chevrolet Blazer (CA license plate# 5DKJ243) taken from the 37000 block of Cherry Street. There is no suspect information.

2122 Hours: Officers responded to Cedar Boulevard south of Thornton Ave for a solo vehicle collision where the intoxicated driver, a 19 year old male from Fremont, collided with a tree. After medical clearance for the airbag deployment collision, he was booked at Fremont Police Department Jail for DUI.

2335 Hours: Officer Rodgers interrupted a fight in progress that resulted from an attempted robbery. A 27 year old male from Newark attempted to rob a female who sat in her vehicle in the Newark Square parking lot. The suspect likely did not see the female victim’s boyfriend who was reclined in the passenger seat when he put two fingers to her head and told her to give him “everything”. The suspect was confronted by the boyfriend. The suspect and boyfriend began to fight when Officer Rodgers contacted them in the parking lot near 7-11. The suspect was arrested for attempted robbery and transported to Santa Rita Jail.

0022 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated a hit and run collision that occurred on Cedar Boulevard near Musick Ave. The collision occurred between 8:00pm and midnight.

0239 Hours: During a traffic stop, Officer Khairy contacted a 35 year old male from Fontana, CA who had a felony probation violation warrant out of Los Angeles. The male was arrested and transported to Fremont PD Jail.

August 1, 2015

0959 Hours: Officer Musantry and Officer Losier contacted a 36 year old Newark resident regarding several warrants for her arrest. She was arrested at her residence and transported to Santa Rita Jail.

1008 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated a commercial burglary at the Public Storage located at 38290 Cedar Blvd. The loss was a TV, cooking equipment, and woman’s clothing.

1658 Hours: Officer Johnson contacted a 36 year old male from San Jose during a traffic enforcement stop. He had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Santa Clara County SO. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

0144 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a hit and collision involving two parked vehicles on Civic Terrace heard by neighbors at approximately 0144 hours. The suspect vehicle was not located.

0141 Hours: Officer Khairy conducted a traffic stop on Cedar Boulevard near Lafayette Ave. The driver, a 39 year old male from Oakland, was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was arrested and booked at Fremont PD Jail.

August 2, 2015

0908 Hours: Officer Neithercutt investigated a stolen Buell motorcycle CA license # 16G7517. The motorcycle was parked in front of a residence in the 5100 block of Tenaya Street.

1857 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a residential ransack burglary that occurred at a residence in the 6200 block of Joaquin Murrieta Blvd between July 31- August 2. Entry was made by shattering a rear slider. Loss was miscellaneous electronics and personal items.

0420 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a hit and run collision that occurred on Mowry Ave west of Cherry Street. A blue Freight-liner drop nose truck with a white 50 foot trailer fled the scene southbound on Cherry after colliding with a fire hydrant. Alameda County Water District responded and repaired the hydrant.

August 3, 2015

1425 Hours: Officers responded to Home Depot for a reported theft in progress. Staff at Home Depot had been following a male who was wearing a red backpack, motorcycle vest, and carrying a motorcycle helmet. The store reported the male had stolen some items from the store and concealed the items in his backpack. The suspect left the business without paying and walked towards a silver motorcycle. As he approached the motorcycle, the suspect identified as a 27 year old male from Fremont, was contacted by Officer Nobbe. While speaking to the suspect, a records check of the motorcycle was completed. The motorcycle had been reported stolen out of San Francisco. A records check of the suspect found he was on searchable probation. A search of his backpack resulted in the recovery of stolen property from Home Depot, two ID cards belonging to other people, and several shaved car keys. He was booked at Fremont PD jail for 496 PC – possession of stolen property, 530.5 PC- possession of someone else’s identification, 466 PC – possession of burglary tools, 484 PC – petty theft, 11377 H&S – possession of drugs, and 11364.1 H&S – possession of drug paraphernalia.

1927 Hours: Officer Sandoval handled an incident involving a tree limb falling onto a parked vehicle on Lafayette Ave. The City of Newark Public Works Department responded for the clean-up.

1955 Hours: Officer Mapes responded to the front counter regarding an assault with a deadly weapon that had occurred earlier in the day at NewPark Mall. The female victim sustained a laceration on her chin from a knife. This investigation is on going.

2116 Hours: During a check of an occupied motor home parked to the rear of the Del Taco restaurant on Jarvis Ave., Officer Mapes arrested a 45 year old male from Newark for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was cited and released at the scene.

2351 Hours: Officer Sandoval investigated a hit & run traffic collision that occurred on Willow St. where approximately 50’ of chain link fence was damaged.

August 4, 2015

0540 Hours: Officer Allum contacted and arrested a 36 year old female from Oakland for an outstanding arrest warrant. She was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1115 Hours: Officer Johnson located a stolen 1996 Honda Accord on Auburn Ave, near Ebbetts St. The vehicle was unoccupied and the victim responded and took possession of their car.

1518 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 19 year old male from Newark for driving with a suspended license. The male refused to sign the citation and was arrested per CVC 40302. The driver was booked at Fremont Jail.

August 5, 2015

0803 Hours: CSO Verandes investigated an auto burglary that occurred at the Homewood Suites, 39270 Cedar Blvd. Entry was via a window smash that occurred between 0715 and 0730. Loss was an ASUS brand laptop.

0950 Hours: CSO Verandes investigated an auto burglary that occurred in the 35200 block of Lido Blvd. Entry was via a window smash that occurred between 2130 hours last night and 1000 hours this morning. Loss was a bag containing paperwork.

2008 Hours: While following up on a hit & run investigation at WorldPac Inc. on Hickory St., Officer Sandoval arrested a 33 year old female from Fremont for a warrant. She was booked at FPD Jail.

2101 Hours: During a warrant service at the E-Z-8 Motel, Officer Mapes arrested a 30 year old male from Mendota for two warrants out of Fresno County. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

0201 Hours: A 32 year old male from San Leandro was found heavily intoxicated on San Antonio St. and was subsequently booked at Santa Rita Jail for 647(f)PC (drunk in public) by Officer Norvell.
