Hit and Run Arrest

MONROE –August 5, 2015 at 8:00 am: Officers responded to the report of a hit and run collision with a possible suspect vehicle still in the area at Monroe Foreign Auto Body in the 19100 block of SR 2. Upon arrival, officers found two large waste oil containers that had been damaged and were leaking oil across the street and into a nearby creek. A few yards from the oil containers, officers found a large dumpster that had been struck and pushed through a cyclone fence. The suspect vehicle was found at a nearby business. Officers found a green paint streak similar to the color of the dumpster and dents along the passenger side of the vehicle. There was also dirty oil on the driver’s side of the vehicle. An officer went to the house of the vehicle’s registered owner; no one came to the door. A voice message was left on the owner’s phone to contact the police.

The owner of the business was contacted and they said that there was approximately 270 gallons of waste oil in the containment tanks. Fire District 3 was called to the scene for the hazardous material spill. The business owner has contacted the Department of Ecology to clean up the oil spill. The initial estimate for clean-up is $20,000 dollars.

At 12:20 pm, the driver of the vehicle returned the phone call and said that she had been driving when her tire blew out. She lost control and struck the tanks. She was then asked to come down to the police department. She arrived at 1:00 pm and was placed under arrest for Hit and Run of Unattended Property, Driving While License Suspended 3rd Degree, Operating Vehicle Without Insurance and Deposit of Unwholesome Substance.
