“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending August 2, 2015

ROBBERY
On Saturday, August 1st, around 5:30 p.m., Ofc. Mangan was dispatched to the area of Decoto Rd. and Meyers Dr. on the report of a robbery. Two victims were sitting in a vehicle when two suspects opened the front passenger door and demanded their phones and wallets. The victims refused, so the female suspect forcefully removed a necklace from a victim’s neck. The two suspects fled on foot on Meyers Dr. The first suspect was described as a black female in her mid- 30’s, 5’8” to 5’10” and 150-180 pounds, with a “cornrow” hair style. The second suspect was described as a white male in his mid-30’s, 5’7” to 5’9” tall and 150-170 pounds.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Assault with Deadly Weapon:
On Wednesday, July 29th, Ofc. Cota was dispatched to James Logan High School on reports of a student brandishing a knife at another student. The incident actually happened the previous day, at a shopping center on Decoto Rd. The suspect, who was known to the victim, pulled out a folding knife and threatened the victim with it. The 14-year-old Hayward resident was arrested and released to an adult male relative.

Brandishing:
On Thursday, July 30th, around 6 a.m., Ofc. Rivas was dispatched to the area of Lewis Ave. and Western Ave. on the report of a subject who brandished a firearm after a road rage incident. The suspect was not located, but the vehicle was described as an older model white Buick.

Stun Gun:
On Saturday, August 1st, around 1 p.m., Ofc. Parodi conducted a consensual encounter with the driver of a parked vehicle. A consensual search of the vehicle yielded an illegal stun gun. Jeremy Gandoza, a 24-year-old Union City resident, was arrested.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, July 27th through Sunday, August 2nd, there were three reported residential burglaries and one attempt:
• 4900 block of Bridgepointe Pl.: Occurred between Monday, July 27th at 11:30 p.m., and Tuesday, July 28th at 4:20 a.m. A front window was smashed and the residence was ransacked. The loss included a stolen vehicle, electronics and clothing. The vehicle was recovered a few days later.
• 31300 block of Santa Ana Way: Occurred on Friday, July 31st, between 6 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. A window was smashed and one bedroom was ransacked. The loss is unknown at this time.
• 4700 block of Valencia Way: Occurred on Friday, July 31st, between 1 a.m. and 2 p.m. Electronics were taken from an unlocked garage.
• 1800 block of Travertine Way (attempt only): Occurred on Saturday, August 1st, around 10 p.m. Attempted burglary of an unlocked storage shed. No loss.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, July 27th through Sunday, August 2nd, there was one reported commercial burglary:
• 1700 block of Atlantic St.: Occurred between Friday, July 31st at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, August 1st at 7:15 a.m. Propane tanks were stolen from a storage area.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, July 27th through Sunday, August 2nd, there were 10 reported auto burglaries. Five of the burglaries occurred in one hotel parking lot on the same night. In most of the incidents, laptop bags, luggage and backpacks were left in plain view on the front or back seat. Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle!

From Monday, July 27th through Sunday, August 2nd, there were four reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, three of the vehicles have been recovered.
