City of Turlock National Night Out

On Tuesday August 4th from 6pm to 9pm, residents throughout Turlock participated in Turlock’s 7th annual “America’s Night Out Against Crime” National Night Out event. Residents turned on outside lights and came out of their homes and spent the evening outdoors with neighbors and their police, fire, and city officials.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime efforts, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and community-police partnerships. This year residents participated in 35 block parties (up from 32 block parties in 2014) and received visits from Turlock Police Officers, Turlock Fire staff, City Officials, MgGruff the Crime Dog, Sparky, SWAT and several other guests. The Turlock Recreation Department also hosted a block party at Columbia Park and provided BBQ, music, and activities for kids. It is estimated that approximately 2,100 community members participated in this year’s event.

"It was great to see so many of our community members come out to meet with police, fire, city staff, elected officials and, most importantly, with each other. The strong showing of over 35 neighborhood sites demonstrates the value Turlock residents place in the National Night Out campaign." – Turlock Mayor, Gary Soiseth

Over 40 local businesses and organizations sponsored the 2015 National Night Out program. On July 23, 2015, Turlock Police & Turlock Fire’s ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ program hosted a block Captain’s Appreciation dinner to recognize the Neighborhood coordinators and their efforts in coordinating their neighborhood events. Items donated by local businesses were raffled off at the dinner. Items included National Night Out banners, ice-cream, water, gift cards, shredders, and safes.
