Want to be a Reserve Deputy Sheriff? Get ready and apply now!

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. (05AUG2015) - The Grant County Sheriff’s Office will be holding its Reserve Officer Academy beginning November 3. Those who wish to become a reserve deputy are given this early notice in order to prepare for the entry examination.

Reserve Deputies are commissioned, volunteer law enforcement officers whose primary purpose is to provide the community with an auxiliary unit of trained, competent sheriff’s deputies. These deputies supplement regular personnel and can be used in the event of an emergency when manpower is critical.

Community involvement and, most of all, support are two vital elements in the operation of any law enforcement agency. GCSO’s Reserve Deputy Program, being made up of citizen volunteers from within the community, stands as a symbol of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office commitment to partnership and teamwork in combating crime.

Applications are available for download at http://www.grantcountywa.gov/SHERIFF/FieldOps/Reserve/. Final due date for applications is 5 p.m. September 4, 2015. The application process includes the completion of the application forms, a criminal background check, physical agility test, a written examination and an oral interview panel.

Upon successful completion of the application process, training will start in early November. Tentatively, training will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights (6 p.m. – 10 p.m.), and every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.). All courses are classroom delivery and instructor led (not online) in Moses Lake. The length of the training is about six months.

If you’re interested in talking to someone in person about the reserve deputy program, the Reserve Academy Commander will be available from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Sheriff’s booth in the Commercial Building during this year’s Grant County Fair, August 18 – 22.
