Autonius Merriweather charged with one count of First Degree Murder
The Madison County Grand Jury returned an indictment this morning (August 3), charging Autonius Merriweather with one count of first-degree murder for the death of Deandre Thomas.
Jackson Police Department’s newly formed Cold Case Unit, along with investigators from the Major Crimes Unit and the Gang Enforcement Team presented evidence to the grand jury that Merriweather was responsible for killing Thomas.
The homicide occurred on the morning of November 5, 2013. Thomas, 26 years old, was shot multiple times as he was walking out of an apartment in Lincoln Courts. Thomas was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Thomas’ body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for an autopsy, which revealed Thomas died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Jackson Police Department’s Cold Case Unit pursued leads, conducted interviews and had physical evidence tested, which lead to Merriweather being charged with first-degree murder.
