ISP Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Sullivan County

Sullivan County—Today around noon, Indiana State Police detectives from the Putnamville Post were requested by Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom to investigate a police action shooting by one of his deputies; however, there were no injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that around noon today, a Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputy and a Jasonville city police officer were surveilling the residence at 308 South Hickory Street in Hymera for a male wanted on warrants from Delaware County Indiana. The officers had been given the suspect information by Delaware County authorities. As the silver and black Buick pulled into the residence, the two officers attempted a felony stop on the vehicle and three occupants. The two females exited the vehicle and the male passenger moved to the driver’s seat. The officers gave verbal commands for the suspect to show his hands and exit the vehicle. The suspect reportedly refused and backed the suspect Buick into the police vehicle at which time the Sullivan County deputy fired one round from his .40 caliber service weapon into the right rear window area of the Buick. The suspect fled a short distance in the vehicle until the vehicle became lodged in a ditch. The suspect fled on foot and was apprehended without incident near the front porch of the 308 Hickory Street residence.

Arrested:          Gregory Bruce Grider, age 27, of Muncie, IN.

Charges:           Held with no bond on Delaware County charges of (1) Strangulation; (2) Battery in front

Of a Child; (3) Interference with Reporting of a Crime; (4) Battery

Local Sullivan County charges are pending.

Grider is also wanted for questioning in an overnight shooting incident in Muncie, Indiana.
