Chief Darryl McAllister has an important message for the community!
Dear Union City:
Words can barely capture how profoundly proud I am of the men and women of the Union City PD for standing tall as GIANTS in rendering aid, support, strength, prayers, and fraternity to our Hayward PD comrades. As the chief of our amazing police department, I am humbled and honored to be at the helm of the truest definition of PERFECTION in an organization's willingness and readiness to mobilize in shoring up the severely damaged hearts of our fellow police family.
Likewise, I am truly thankful for the HUGE response of support from the Union City community, and from the citywide Union City employee family, for extending such a heartfelt hand of support. Union City at large has not only rallied a united shoulder on which a devastated Hayward PD could rest its wounded heart, but also you have truly demonstrated the pure essence of an entire community standing together as an ambassador of collegial love, communal respect, and heartfelt honor.
As Sergeant Lunger has been laid to rest, Hayward PD must now begin the healing process and carry forward with its noble calling to protect the Hayward community from evil. We, too, share that benevolent commitment to all of you in Union City. Please know that as the men and women of the Union City PD continue to serve you in that calling, each of us will do so while carrying with us a piece of Sergeant Lunger’s honor and reverence for the absolute best in policing—everywhere.
