Simi Valley Police Explorers Graduate From Explorer Academy

On July 30, 2015, Explorers from the Simi Valley Police Department, Port Hueneme Police Department, Santa Paula Police Department, and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office graduated from the Ventura County Law Enforcement Explorer Academy. After three rigorous and challenging weeks of knowledge and physical fitness based curriculum, 47 young adults and teenagers ranging in age from 15-20 years can now say they are Police Explorers. The graduates from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office represented Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Fillmore, Ojai and West County.

Although the class originally started with 61 Explorer Cadets, of the 47 that successfully graduated, the Simi Valley Police Department Explorer graduates represented the largest group at 11. During the graduation ceremony, Simi Valley Police Explorer, Gunnar Skidmore spoke to the attendees on behalf of his class and was recognized for his leadership role as the Class Sergeant during the Academy.

Addressing the graduates and their family and friends in attendance was Ventura County Sheriff, Geoff Dean. Sheriff Dean relayed to the new graduates the importance of “working hard to develop your knowledge, skills and attitude so that you can succeed in life”.
Assisting with the success of the Class of 2015 was the dedication of the Academy Staff:

Officer Sean Baker, Simi Valley Police Department
Officer Jessica Getchius, Simi Valley Police Department
Officer David Scher, Simi Valley Police Department
Officer Eric Burnett, Santa Paula Police Department
Deputy Erik Hernandez, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office
Deputy Danny Lopez, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office
