Four arrested in N. Amarillo home burglary yesterday...and how to protect your home from burlgary..
On 7-30-15, at 2:28 PM, officers were sent to a home in the 1600 block of N. Wilson on a burglary in progress. Two children were in the home, including a teenager. The teenager told officers that they saw a black male knock on their front door, and three more black males at the fence in the front yard. They didn’t answer the door and the men walked away. Shortly after this, two of the same men kicked in the back door and entered the home. When the suspects saw the juveniles inside, they left without taking anything. A Potter County Sheriff’s Office investigator heard the radio broadcast of the suspect description and saw four males walking in the 2000 block of N. Houston. APD officers detained the four. Officers found that one of them was carrying a 9mm handgun, and charges relating to that are under investigation. A witness was able to identify them as the four that had been at the home. APD burglary investigators believe that two entered while two acted as look-outs with the intent of committing theft. The four were booked into the Potter County Detention Center for burglary of habitation. They are: David Earl Hase Jr. BM 21, Keshawn Johnson BM 17, Rodney Alonzo Smith Jr. BM 17, and Jahkori Deion Gardner BM 17.
Home owners should be aware that burglars often use this method of finding out if anyone is home when selecting a target home. Be cautious of unknown people that knock on your door. You don’ have to open the door but you may wish to respond through the door to let them know someone is home. If you open the door to someone and they provide a suspicious reason for knocking, such as looking for someone that does not live there, or offering a product or service (like lawn care) that they don’t appear to be ready to provide, get a description of them and any vehicle they may be connected to and call the police. Amarillo reported 19 home burglaries last week, and residents can do a lot to protect their homes from this crime.
