Start Back on August 5th!
The Marietta Police Department would like to remind all City of Marietta residents that Wednesday, August 5th is the start of the 2015 school year. With school starting back in less than a week there are several reminders that the police department would like to share.
• Keep your full atteniton on the roadway and watch for children and parents gathering at bus stops on street corners.
• Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will increase, especially in subdivisions and apartment complexes, so please slow down.
• Make sure to allow extra time to get to work or drop off children at school since congestion will increase.
• Speed limits within school zones will be strictly enforced, so please be mindful if your travels take you through any of these areas. (O.C.G.A. § 40-6-181)
• State law requires that traffic in both directions are required to stop for school buses loading and unloading their passengers. The only exception to this law is when there is a divided highway separated by a raised median and you are in the lane of traffic opposite that of the school bus. (O.C.G.A. § 40-6-163)
