Update to Man Ejected and Dies in Two Vehicle Crash; Seatbelt Not in Use

Notification to family of the deceased in the crash that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. today in the area I-74 and State Road 267 has been made.  The deceased driver of the 2004 Jeep was Scott Bennett, 55 of Brownsburg, Indiana.

Below is the original release from earlier this evening:

Brownsburg, IN – Shortly before five this afternoon Indiana State Police Trooper Roosevelt Williams was dispatched to an injury crash reported to be at eastbound I-74, just east of State Road 267.  Tpr. Roosevelt arrived at 6 p.m. and discovered two vehicles had been involved in a crash that resulted in one driver being ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the vehicle who was killed lost control of his vehicle, a Gray 2004 Jeep, as the traffic lanes were reduced from two lanes to one lane prior to entering the construction zone at I-74 eastbound, just east of State Road 267, the Brownsburg exit.  After loss of control the jeep rolled over and then struck the rear of a second vehicle, a 2013 Kia Optima.

The impact of the collision caused the driver of the Jeep, who was not wearing a seat belt, to be ejected. There were no other passengers in the Jeep.  The driver and three other passengers of the Kia were using seat belts and were not injured.

Killed in the crash was the driver of the Jeep.  While tentative identification has been made, efforts of the Hendricks County Coroner to notify next of kin have not been successful.  Once notification has been made the identity of the deceased male will be released.

The driver of the Kia, Cindy Sue Neumann, 43, Medford, WI and her three passengers were not injured.

Eastbound I-74 remained closed the result of the crash from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

This crash is another tragic reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts and reducing speed when approaching a construction zone.

The Indiana State Police were assisted by the Brownsburg Fire and Police Department as well as the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department and the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office.
