LOCATIONS: 900 block of 5th Avenue, Redwood City
TYPE OF INCIDENT: Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested
SUSPECT: Carlos Mayen, 19 year-old, male, Redwood City resident
SUSPECT VEHICLE: 2003 Silver BMW 328i
SUMMARY:
On July 27, 2015 at approximately 12:00 pm, alert neighbors observed a vehicle they did not recognize park in front of their neighbor’s residence. They saw a Hispanic male exit the vehicle and walk down the neighbor’s driveway and out of view. They did not recognize the subject and thought his actions were suspicious so they went outside to get a better look at the subject and his vehicle. They then saw the suspect exit the driveway area and get back into his vehicle. The subject then backed his vehicle into the victim’s driveway and another suspect exited the victim’s residence carrying a bag. The suspect put the bag in the trunk of the vehicle and they fled eastbound on 5th Avenue. As the suspects were leaving, the alert neighbor used a cellular phone to take photographs of the suspects and their vehicle. The neighbor called 911 and notified police. Officers conduct a search of the area for the vehicle but did not locate it. An officer examined the photographs and discovered the neighbor took pictures of the suspects and the suspect’s vehicle including the license plate.
Detectives conducted follow-up investigation and learned the vehicle was registered to a female from Oakland. They responded to Oakland and learned the owner had recently sold the vehicle and did not have any information for the new owner and DMV had no record of the sale.
On July 29, 2015, at approximately 11:57 pm, another citizen called the police department and reported seeing a suspicious vehicle parked in a parking lot on the 400 block of Seaport Court. An officer responded to the area and located a silver BMW parked in the parking lot. The officer immediately recognized the vehicle and the subject from the photographs the citizen took during the burglary on July 27th. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for residential burglary. The second suspect is still outstanding and has not been identified. Anyone with information regarding this suspect or this burglary is encouraged to contact Detective Roman Gomez at 650-780-7681.
The Redwood City Police Department would like to recognize and thank these citizens for their keen observations, their concern for their neighbors, and their willingness to get involved. Because of their actions, officers were able to apprehend a residential burglary suspect and prevent him from committing additional crimes.
