Early morning prowler burglarizes two residences in Fremont Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, July 28, 2015,  between the hours of 3:50 a.m. – 6:15 a.m., an unknown suspect entered and burglarized two apartment units while residents were sleeping.

The first incident occurred between 3: 50 a.m. – 4:04 a.m. on the 40700 block of Fremont Blvd.  In this case, the suspect is captured on video surveillance approaching the victims residence.  The suspect climbs up to the second floor balcony and enters an unlocked patio door to gain entry. Once inside, the suspect searches several rooms until a female resident wakes up and screams which causes him to flee the apartment with a box of unidentified loss.  The suspect is again captured on video running away from the area.

About an hour later between 5:15 a.m. – 6:15 a.m., the same suspect entered a residence on the 4200 block of Bay Street in a very similar manner.  The suspect climbed to the second story balcony and entered the apartment through an open patio door.  Once inside, the suspect looked through several rooms and took a cell phone, set of car keys and a wallet.  A sleeping resident was not alerted and awoke a short time after the suspect fled.

In an effort to identify the suspect, we are attaching photos captured during the first incident.  The suspect appears to be a white or Hispanic male in his 20’s, regular build, wearing a white Old Navy hooded sweatshirt, jeans and carrying a backpack.

This incident is an unfortunate reminder that windows and doors left open for ventilation, can make your home a prime target for intruders.  There is nothing quite as relaxing as a warm summer breeze coming through open windows however, open windows are also a security risk.  Always be safe and close and lock your doors and windows when you go to bed or leave your residence.  When home, a good security option for doors and windows is a track-lock. Available at hardware stores and easy to install, track-locks keep windows locked in place at your chosen width. Install on the top and bottom track (or left and right on windows that open up and down) so windows cannot be rocked open. Six inches or less will get you a nice breeze and discourage intruders.

If you or someone you know has information about this case or recognizes the suspect, we ask that you please contact Detective A. Ceniceros at [email protected] or call 510-790-6900.
