The San Luis Obispo Police Department is pleased to announce the deployment of its second downtown bike officer during the day time hours. On July 28, 2015, Officer Greg Benson will be starting his new assignment as downtown bike officer. The San Luis Obispo Police Department has been working on the implementation of this position, realizing the need for additional police services during the busy business hours downtown. Now that staffing levels allow for the second officer, we are happy to have coverage seven days a week in the downtown area.

The Police Department has given the downtown area extra attention for the last several years to address some of the most chronic offenders that utilize police resources. Those resources included overtime foot patrols in the downtown area, use of the CAT team to address many of our chronic offenders and patrol officers working in the area when not handling calls for service. With the additional day time bike officer the San Luis Obispo Police Department believes we can help further reduce problems of panhandling, public intoxication, and many other crimes that negatively impact downtown San Luis Obispo.
