The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has filed a criminal complaint for grand theft and other related charges with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office and his prosecution in this case is pending.
Through the course of their investigation, Sheriff’s detectives learned that Carroll was dropped off in the City of Goleta on July 6 and set out to steal property out of unlocked vehicles. Between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., he stole items out of seven unlocked vehicles in a neighborhood north of Calle Real in the area of Kellogg Avenue and Berkeley Road. During this crime spree, Carroll also located an unlocked vehicle with the keys left inside, which he used to drive back to his Santa Paula home.
On July 16, Carroll was pulled over for a traffic stop in Santa Paula and officers soon discovered the car he was driving in was stolen. When they searched the vehicle, they found items taken out of vehicles in Goleta. In all, the property stolen exceeds two thousand dollars. Carroll faces charges of auto theft and grand theft.
