“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending July 26, 2015

ROBBERY
On Saturday, July 25th, around 9 p.m., Ofc. Rivas responded to Los Dos Gallos (34704 Alvarado-Niles Rd.) on the report of a robbery. The victim was placing items inside her vehicle when a suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her purse. A struggle ensued and the victim was dragged several feet. The suspect gained control of the purse and fled on foot across Alvarado-Niles Rd. Detectives are investigating this case.

VEHICLE THEFT ARRESTS
On Tuesday, July 21st, around 12:45 a.m., Ofc. Olson located a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot that had been reported stolen out of Newark. The driver also had a shaved key in his pocket, which are commonly used to steal older model vehicles. Cecilio Gonzalez, a 29-year-old Newark resident, was arrested for vehicle theft and possession of burglary tools.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, around 1:30 a.m., Ofc. Blanchard located a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot that had been reported stolen out of Newark. Jennifer Robertson, a 39-year-old Newark resident, was arrested.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Brandishing:
On Sunday, July 26th, around 2:30 a.m., Ofc. Olson was dispatched to Walmart for a reported robbery. A Loss Prevention employee was pursuing a shoplifter, when she suddenly turned and brandished a weapon at him. The employee thought the suspect was holding a knife, but it turned out to be a pair of gardening shears. Tiffany Thurman, a 38-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested for brandishing a weapon and petty theft.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, July 20th through Sunday, July 26th, there were two reported residential burglaries and one attempt:
• 34900 block of Eastin Dr.: Occurred on Thursday, July 23rd, between 6:45 a.m. and 10 p.m. A side window was smashed and the residence was ransacked. The loss included cash and a Sentry safe containing jewelry.
• 4100 block of Oliver Way: Occurred between Thursday, July 23rd at 5 p.m., and Saturday, July 25th at 9:30 p.m. A side window was smashed and the residence was ransacked. The loss included cash.
• 34700 block of Lilac St. (attempt only): Occurred on Wednesday, July 22nd, between 3:05 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. A bedroom window was left unlocked. The suspect was observed on surveillance footage covering the camera with a glove, but it appeared that nothing was disturbed or stolen.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, July 20th through Sunday, July 26th, there were no reported commercial burglaries.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, July 20th through Sunday, July 26th, there were four reported auto burglaries. In all of the incidents, laptop bags, purses and backpacks were left in plain view on the front or back seat. Three of the burglaries (75%) took place at the Union Landing shopping center. Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle!

From Monday, July 20th through Sunday, July 26th, there were two reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, one of the vehicles has been recovered.
