MATTAWA, Wash. (28JULY2015) – A Yakima man is missing after diving into the waters near Vernita Bridge (Mattawa) this afternoon. Grant County Search and Rescue, Grant County PUD, as well as Columbia Basin Dive Rescue from Tri Cities are responding.
The man reportedly dove into the water from shore in order to help 3 juvenile swimmers caught in the current. After getting the first two juveniles back to shore, he then too became caught in the current. The third juvenile swimmer was able to return to shore safely.
No other information is available at this time.
