Today, Saturday, July 25th, 2015, the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” concludes its journey from Athens, when the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics team, carries it into the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 World Games.
The Flame of Hope has traveled the world, including from east to west across the United States, escorted by teams of Law Enforcement officers. There have been over 125 ceremonies throughout California, promoting messages of acceptance and inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The Special Olympics World Games is the largest event to come to Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympics, and it is the first time since 1999 that the games have been hosted by the United States. The final leg team was comprised of law enforcement officers from around the world, as well as 10 Special Olympic Athletes. The Coliseum was also the site of the 1932 Olympic Games.
Be a part of this historical journey. Come cheer on more than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries and enjoy the star-studded show that will officially launch the World Games.
