Warehouse Fire Update - July 24, 2015 12:00 p.m.
* The warehouse fire located at Route 1 and Livingston Avenue is contained at this time. The fire department is using heavy machinery to extinguish hot spots which may cause small fires and additional smoke. Local roads that were closed or impacted during this time have been re-opened and traffic patterns have returned to normal.
* The NJDEP, USEPA, and Middlesex County Health Department are continuously monitoring the site and surrounding areas for air quality concerns. Smoke and particle debris remain a concern in the immediate area of the fire. Winds and atmospheric conditions change smoke patterns. Residents are reminded to avoid or reduce exposure by staying indoors or staying out of areas containing smoke fields.
* Displaced residents are not being allowed back home yet as a safety precaution. Displaced residents will be allowed back in their homes as soon as air quality monitoring allows. Anyone needing to enter their homes for medical or emergency supplies should contact the police department for access.
*The shelter at Linwood Middle School will continue to remain open on an as needed basis.
*Due to the size of this warehouse, fire operations will continue for several days. Water pressure is stabilizing but residents may still experience discolored water periodically.
* Daily updates will be available on our township website www.northbrunswicknj.gov and on our automated phone system at 732 247 0922. Helpful information on how to clean up smoke and soot from this fire has also been posted on the municipal website.
* Please note we are continuing to work tirelessly to restore normal township operations for all residents.
