Impersonating Peace Officer Arrest

(Etowah County, Alabama) A Dekalb County man was arrested and charged for impersonating a law enforcement officer, according to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“David Michael Combs, 43, of Fyffe, is charged with one count of impersonating a peace officer, which is a felony,” Captain Josh Morgan said.

Sheriff’s Office Chief Lee Taylor witnessed Comb’s 2007, white Tahoe driving down Rainbow Drive with blue lights on shortly before 2:00 p.m. yesterday, July 23. Chief Taylor followed in behind and noticed the vehicle had a handicap license plate. He then made a traffic stop on Combs’s Tahoe near the 1500 block of Rainbow Drive.

Chief Taylor asked Combs where he was going and what agency he was affiliated with. Combs stated that he was going to a wreck. There was no wreck on Rainbow Drive at the time of the incident. Combs was dressed in a black t-shirt with the word ‘Police’ on it, and had two guns, handcuffs, and a handheld radio in the vehicle.

As he was questioned further, Combs mentioned he was a constable in Dekalb County. Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris confirmed that he is not a constable and does not have any authority in the County.

Combs was previously arrested and convicted on the same charge in December 1993 in Jackson County.

He is currently detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $2,500 property bond.

Sheriff Entrekin asks if anyone has had contact with Combs while he has impersonated an officer please, contact the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office or Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office.
