WEAPONS ARRESTS
On Sunday, July 19th, around 5:20 p.m., Ofc. DeJong conducted a vehicle stop on the northbound I-880 onramp from Whipple Rd. Two loaded, concealed firearms were located in the vehicle. Hayward residents Juanito Febo, 26, and Robert Gogue, 25, were both arrested on several firearms charges.

ROBBERY
On Tuesday, July 14th, around 4:20 p.m., Ofc. Turbyfill was dispatched to Walmart on reports of an in-progress theft of DVDs. One of the suspects brandished a knife at a loss prevention employee, making the crime a robbery. Both suspects were found hiding behind a nearby store. Antioch resident Pierre Johnson, 19, and Union City resident Jerry Baker, 18, were arrested.

BURGLARY TOOLS
On Thursday, July 16th, around 9:45 a.m., Ofc. DeJong conducted a pedestrian stop on Hollyhock St. A probation search yielded three shaved keys, a circular file and various punch tools. Kenneth Chahin, a 23-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for the possession of burglary tools.

On Sunday, July 19th, around 10:30 p.m., Ofc. Jensen conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Decoto Rd. and Meyers Dr. A probation search of the vehicle yielded a shaved key. John Alejandres, a 38-year-old Union City resident, was cited and released.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Attempted Robbery:
On Thursday, July 16th, around 4:15 p.m., Ofc. Willson was dispatched to the area of Alvarado Niles Rd. and Mann Ave. on the report of a just occurred attempted robbery. While the victim was walking home from work, two juvenile males approached him, displayed what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded his property. When they noticed a witness watching them, they fled on foot. Both juveniles were located in the area, and the weapon was determined to be an Airsoft pistol. They are both residents of Oakland and were transported to Juvenile Hall.

Grand Theft:
On Saturday, July 18th, around 3 p.m., Ofc. Solverson was dispatched to 5th St. on reports of a grand theft. $1,800 was missing from the victim’s home, but there were no signs of forced entry.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, July 13th through Sunday, July 19th, there were four reported residential burglaries:
• 2400 block of Balmoral St.: Occurred on Monday, July 13th, around 2:20 p.m. The front door was kicked in. The loss included a jewelry box and purses.
• 31300 block of Santa Cruz Way: Occurred on Monday, July 13th, between 12:55 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. The front door was kicked in and the residence was ransacked. The loss included jewelry and designer sunglasses. The suspect vehicle was captured on video. On July 16th, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office engaged in a vehicle pursuit with the suspects and arrested two of them in Walnut Creek. Some of the victim’s stolen property was recovered in the vehicle.
• 32000 block of Alvarado Niles Rd.: Occurred on Tuesday, July 14th, between 8 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. A window was smashed, and the loss included electronics and IDs.
• 4600 block of Dinuba St.: Occurred on Saturday, July 18th, between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. The front window was smashed with a shovel. The residence was ransacked, and the loss included a safe and its contents.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, July 13th through Sunday, July 19th, there were no reported commercial burglaries.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, July 13th through Sunday, July 19th, there were three reported auto burglaries. In all three cases, electronics and laptops were left in plain view on the front or back seat. Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle!

From Monday, July 13th through Sunday, July 19th, there was one reported vehicle theft. The vehicle was recovered.

LOSS OF HAYWARD POLICE OFFICER
Our community is reeling from yesterday’s senseless shooting of Hayward PD officer Sgt. Scott Lunger. UCPD officers and civilian staff have been assisting HPD in any way possible, including peer support, dispatch and patrol services – and we will continue to do so for any additional services that are requested. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Lunger’s family, his extended HPD family, and the entire community.
