INCIDENT: H.O.P.E. Team assists former inmate with services

SUMMARY:
On Monday, July, 20, 2015 the HOPE Team was contacted by Social Worker Marisol Martinez, who is assigned to the West Valley Detention Center. Martinez said an inmate was due to be released from custody and would be homeless upon his release. The inmate had been in custody for the past three years and was interested in getting connected with supportive services, hoping it would break his cycle of recidivism. Martinez and Deputy DaVault from the HOPE Team interviewed the inmate Tuesday at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center and learned he qualified for a special housing program. During the interview, the inmate stated he knew if he were to be released to the streets he would return to his old ways of living and he no longer wanted that life. The HOPE team was able to secure him a space in a special live-in program with wrap around services that will assist him transition back into mainstream society.
The inmate was released Wednesday morning from the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center. Members of the HOPE Team met him at the rehabilitation center and took him to the homeless service provider where he is now enrolled into the program.
The collaboration between Social Services, the HOPE Team, and the Homeless Service provider effectively ended this individuals homelessness and provided him the opportunity to start a new life and become a productive member of our society.
