7/13/15, informational release: BPD Officer Werner - UPDATE

Last night, Burlington Police Administration was contacted by the St. Albans Police Department regarding a traffic crash investigation they were conducting. As a result of their investigation, Leanne Werner, a Burlington police officer since 2011, was taken into custody. Their investigation is continuing.

Officer Werner was placed on administrative leave and Burlington Police will conduct a full internal investigation once St. Albans PD and Vermont State Police complete their work.

For investigative integrity, any inquiries regarding the crash and criminal charges should be directed to St. Albans Police Department.

On July 18, 2015, police administration of the Burlington Police Department were notified that Mr. Omer Martin, 74, St. Albans, had passed away as a direct result of the traffic crash that occurred on July 12, 2015 in the Town of St. Albans. Our thoughts are with those who were affected by this tragic incident.

As of this time, Leanne Werner continues to be on paid administrative leave and Burlington Police will conduct a full internal investigation once the crash investigation is complete.

For investigative integrity, inquiries regarding the crash and criminal charges should be directed to the St. Albans Police Department or the Franklin County Attorney’s Office.
