ONE ARRESTED IN PORTER TOWNSHIP ASSAULT

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood J.R. reports that on 7/20/2015 at 22:18 his deputies responded to an assault at George's Café in Porter Township. Witnesses at the bar told deputies that a 53-year-old Union man, whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, walked into the bar with a rifle and threatened them. Some of the patron were able to disarm the suspect and detain him until deputies arrived and placed him under arrest.

Deputies recovered the weapon, described as a .22 caliber semi-auto rifle, and seized it for evidence. The weapon was not loaded and none of the patrons present reported any injuries.

This incident remains under investigation.
