Reported Thefts and Arrests in the Past Two Weeks

ESPD is advising the community of some of the recent thefts and arrests that have taken place in the past two weeks:

July 5 – Report in the 300 block of Maryland St regarding the theft of a side mirror from a Chevrolet Silverado truck.

July 5 – Report of a stolen bicycle from the 700 block of E. Grand Ave.

ARREST: July 8 @ 7:30 pm - Officers responded to the 700 block of S. Sepulveda Blvd regarding two men that stole two laptop computers and fled in a car. An officer searched the area and saw a car and its occupants matching the description of the crime broadcast. Officers conducted a traffic stop which lead to the discovery of the stolen merchandise in the trunk and the arrest of both men.

July 8 @ 11:30 pm - A resident in the 700 block of Bungalow Dr heard a loud noise outside of his home and went to investigate the source. He saw a car speeding away and discovered someone had broken into his Chevrolet Suburban. The suspect(s) had punched the door lock and pry marks were visible on the rear hatch. It appears the suspect(s) tried to remove the third row seat but were unsuccessful because the resident had installed a lock on it.

July 11 @ 7:04 pm - A resident in the 400 block of Concord St heard a car alarm go off in the alley behind his house. He went outside and discovered someone had broken into a car by smashing the window.

July 11 @ 9:21 pm - Officers responded to a burglar alarm going off to a business in the 1100 block of E. Mariposa Ave and discovered a broken window. After surrounding and searching the business no suspects were located.

July 12 - A burglary was reported to a business in the 1100 block of E. El Segundo Blvd. An unknown suspect(s) had smashed a window to gain entry and ransacked the location.
While taking the report the officer noticed a nearby parked car had also been burglarized.

July 12 - A resident in the 100 block of E. Oak Ave reported someone had stolen four car tires valued at $5,000.- that were being stored in a carport.

July 13 – Report in the 900 block of E. Imperial Ave regarding the theft of a tail gate to a Ford F150 pick-up truck.

ARREST: July 14 @ 1:41 am - An officer stopped a bicyclist in the 700 block of S. Sepulveda Blvd for a traffic violation. The man was arrested for possession of stolen property after telling the officer he had stolen the bicycle from a beach in Santa Monica.

July 14 - A resident in the 300 block of Virginia St reported the theft of two bicycles that had been stored in a carport.

July 15 - A woman in the 500 block of Arena St set her purse down in the street next to her car so she could call 911 regarding a medical situation someone nearby was experiencing. When she returned to her car the victim discovered her purse was missing.

July 15 - A resident in the 400 block of Concord St discovered someone had broken into his Cadillac Escalade SUV and stole the third row seat.

ARREST: July 15 – One man and two juveniles were arrested/cited on the suspicion of committing four car and commercial burglaries in town.

ARREST: July 15 @ 10:27 pm, a man was arrested on the suspicion of stealing a bicycle valued over $1,000. When he was arrested, the suspect was in possession of bolt cutters and hygiene products that appeared to have been stolen from stores. Detectives traced the stolen property to the store and the items were returned.

July 16 - A victim reported someone had smashed his window and broken into his car while it was parked in a rear carport in the 300 block of Main St. A backpack, which had been in plain view on the front passenger seat, was stolen and it contained photographic and electronic items.

July 16 @ 2:03 pm - Car burglary was reported in the 800 block of Apollo St. Stolen items include a briefcase, wallet and laptop computer.

July 17 - A resident in the 500 block of Oregon St reported someone had stolen his Apple MacBook from his unlocked car.

July 17 - Bicycle reported stolen from the 400 block of Richmond St.

July 17 - Theft of a catalytic converter from a Toyota Tundra was reported in the 2200 block of Park Pl.

Always lock your car doors and keep valuables out of sight

GMC/Chevrolet SUV and truck owners: Try to keep your vehicle parked in a secured garage whenever possible. Thieves specifically target your vehicle to steal the third row seats, side mirrors, tail gates and dash mounted navigation units.
