Attempt Murder of a Police Officer results in a Deputy Involved Shooting in Needles.

INCIDENT: Attempt Murder of Police Officer - Officer Involved Shooting
LOCATION: 4170 Needles Highway, Needles, Ca - The Palms River Resort
SUSPECT(S): Jackie Brand Jr., 50 year old resident of Highland
VICTIM(S): San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff
SUMMARY: On Friday, July 17, 2015, Jackie Brand was reported missing by friends and family after he left from work early in the morning. Deputies assigned to Grand Terrace responded and took the initial report. Brand made statements to friends indicating he was intending to harm himself. Brand was located, later the same day, at a residence in Needles. Deputies from the Needles Sheriff's Station were requested to contact Brand and check on his welfare. Deputies contacted Brand at his residence in Needles during which Brand diplayed a semi-automatic handgun. Brand ignored commands to drop the handgun. Brand pointed the handgun directly at a deputy, forcing the deputy to use lethal force against Brand. Brand was declared deceased at the scene. The handgun used by Brand was a fully loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Due to the use of deadly force, the Sheriff's Homicide Detail was requested to conduct the investigation.
