Five Injured in I-70 Crash
Hancock Co.,- The right lane of I-70 WB at the 111mm is now open after all of the WB lanes were closed this morning due to a personal injury crash.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Indiana State Police troopers were dispatched to I-70 WB at the 111mm at 7:13 a.m. on the report of a single vehicle crash. Evidence gathered at the scene and witness statements indicate that the driver of a van apparently fell asleep and drove off the right side of the roadway. The driver woke up, overcorrected and brought the van back onto the WB lanes then lost control and rolled the van off the right side of the roadway. Some of the four passengers were ejected from the vehicle.
The teenage driver was transported to Hancock Regional Hospital. Three passengers were taken to Methodist Hospital, two by air ambulance. One was transported to Riley Hospital. All injuries were considered to be non-life threatening according to investigators. All of the occupants are from Wisconsin.
An alternate route of travel is SR 109.
Investigators are still on the scene investigating the crash and removing the wreckage.
