ISP Offers High School Students a Close Look at Law Enforcement

Lowell-Recently, Indiana State Police at Lowell gave twenty two high school students looking for something different to do a close up look at law enforcement.

The Career Camp was recently held at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer.  The Career Camp gave high school students an in-depth look at law enforcement from a perspective similar to the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. It’s an exciting up close look at law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Campers conducted their own crime scene investigations, heard from experts in the criminal justice field, watched and participated in police demonstrations (K-9, investigations, defensive tactics, firearm simulator, emergency response team, and bomb squad) and participated in motivating and recreational programs/activities.

Camp staffs are handpicked and consisted of Trooper Danielle Elwood (lead counselor), Trooper Brandon Henderson, Trooper Paul Arnold, Trooper Carson House and Trooper Justin Heflin.

Trooper Danielle Elwood stated, “This camp allowed campers to interact with each other, learn teamwork skills and discipline, gain confidence and self respect, and respect for others.  Hopefully they made friends from around the state.”

This leadership camp was co-sponsored by the Indiana District Optimists.
