Agitated State of Mind Results in Family Altercation
Sullivan County—This afternoon at 3:40, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch received a frantic call from a male at 2821 West State Road 48 near Shelburn. The caller advised a relative was “out of control” and battering the caller’s wife. Indiana State Police troopers and Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies were urgently dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary investigation alleges the 35-year-old male relative was highly agitated and battering the man and woman, first inside the home, then again outside the residence as the elderly couple were attempting to leave. Once outside, the suspect allegedly forced the female to the ground and was on top her, when the male caller used a motor vehicle to nudge the 35-year-old man off of the older female.
The victim caller, 64-year-old Larry Thacker, received facial injuries during the altercation, but refused medical treatment at the scene. The female victim, 60-year-old Semi Dawn Thacker, (that is correct spelling) received minor injuries and also refused treatment at the scene.
The 35-year-old suspect was transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital and is currently undergoing psychological evaluation. He received no injuries from the nudge of the truck. Alcohol and other substances may be a contributing factor to the agitated state of the suspect.
ISP policy prohibits the releasing of the names of suspects. An ISP report will be submitted to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office for review of any potential charges. If charges are filed, the suspect’s name will be released.
The incident was investigated by ISP Trooper Brent Robinson. Assisting were ISP Trooper Erik Smith, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County EMS, Thunderbird Fire/Rescue, and the Farmersburg Town Marshall.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
