EPHRATA, Wash. (14JULY2015) -- A 50-year-old Moses Lake man who was an inmate at the Grant County jail died after he apparently hanged himself in his cell.
David B. Grande [pronounced GRAHN-DAY] was found in his single-occupancy cell around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday by a corrections deputy who was conducting routine security checks. Jail staff and medics performed CPR, but Grande was pronounced dead shortly after he was found. Grant County detectives are investigating. Grande's family have been notified.
Corrections deputies conduct routine checks of all jail inmates every 60 minutes.
Grande’s body is in the care of the Grant County Coroner’s Office, whose staff will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
Grande was booked into the jail on Monday July 13 for investigation of retail theft, third degree theft and an outstanding district court warrant.
“Corrections deputies work very hard to ensure the safety of inmates,” said Sheriff Tom Jones. “I’m saddened by Mr. Grande’s death, and I am praying for his family.”
The investigation continues.
