Peru Man Arrested on Felony Charges after Vehicle Pursuit

Peru – Sunday morning at approximately 2:47 a.m., Indiana State Trooper Steven Glass was on routine patrol when he observed a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck commit numerous traffic violations including driving left of the center line and disregarding a stop sign. Trooper Glass activated the emergency lights on his police car in an attempt to stop the truck near River Road and Armstrong Street in Peru. The driver of the truck, later identified as Ronald Krieg, 34, Peru, IN, did not stop. He led the trooper, along with officers from the Peru Police Department and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, on an approximately 10 minute low speed pursuit.

Miami County Sheriff’s Deputy John Jumper was able to get ahead of the pursuit and deploy stop sticks in front of the Chevrolet. The stop sticks caused a controlled deflation on two of the truck’s tires. Approximately one mile later, the truck stopped near Miami County Road 100 West and County Road 650 South.  Krieg refused to exit the pickup truck and became combative with police officers. He had to be forcibly removed from the truck.

Krieg was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail to face felony charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and resisting law enforcement causing an injury.  Trooper Glass sustained a cut on his arm while removing Krieg from the truck.

The pursuit reached a top speed of 40 miles per hour.

Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Give a vehicle description and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.
