DATE/TIME: July 11, 2015 / 10:30 p.m.
INCIDENT: Vehicle Burglary / Unlawful usage of access or credit card / Receiving known stolen property
LOCATION: Red Hill Park
SUSPECT: Gerald Crutcher, 54 years old, Ontario resident
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, July 10, 2015, two volunteer members of the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department Citizen Patrol unit were on duty providing uniformed presence at Red Hill Park for a popular event called "Movies in the Park."
They parked their marked police patrol vehicle in the parking lot and tended to their duties on foot for the duration of the event. At the conclusion of the event, they returned to their patrol vehicle and noticed the right rear passenger window had been shattered. One of the Citizen Patrol members noticed her purse was stolen. The purse had been concealed in the back seat and was not easily visible from the outside.
During the subsequent investigation, Detective J. Marshall and Deputy G. Laing, developed leads which lead them to believe Gerald Crutcher was the suspect. Additionally, the victim's credit cards were being used shortly after the burglary in the city of Ontario, not far from Crutcher's residence.
Approximately three hours after the discovery of the burglary, Marshall and Laing, along with other members of the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department made contact at Crutcher's residence. Crutcher was found hiding on the roof near the chimney and taken into custody. Several pieces of the victim's jewelry were located on the roof where he was hiding. Additionally surveillance footage from local businesses showed he purchased items using the victim's stolen credit card. Crutcher was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on the above listed charges.
Crutcher had been released from prison on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) as part of the State of California's prison realignment. Investigators are seeking additional victims and are asking for public assistance. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call We-Tip at 1-800-78-CRIME.
