Possible Drowning

On June 10th, 2015 at about 10:45 am Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a missing swimmer in the Kern River Canyon, about 2 miles east of the mouth of the canyon on Hwy. 178.

When deputies arrived they learned that a fifteen year old boy had been swimming in the river with several friends and at one point jumped into the river and was swept under the water. His friends began searching for him but were unable to locate him. They then reported him missing.

Deputies searched the area on foot and a Sheriff’s Office air unit responded and searched by air. Search and Rescue Unit team members responded and began searching the area he was last seen. A Search and Rescue diver entered the water to attempt to locate the boy but was unable to find him.

Deputies and Search and Rescue members will continue to attempt to locate the boy who is presumed drowned.
