Danville Police investigating a series of thefts of catalytic converters

Danville Police Detectives are investigating a recent series of thefts of car parts in the Town of Danville. In the thefts, suspects are targeting catalytic converters, a part of a vehicle’s exhaust system.

Lt. Allan Shields said catalytic convertors are being sought for the precious metals used to make them. Shields said the thieves are specifically targeting trucks and SUVs due to the use of multiple catalytic convertors.

“The best way for residents to prevent these thefts is keeping your vehicle either in the garage, a side yard or a well-lit area.” Lt Shields added, “Another way is by being vigilant in your neighborhoods. Keeping an eye out for each other is a good way to prevent these crimes from happening.” Shields requested that residents report any suspicious activity immediately to the police by phoning 911 if it is an emergency or (925)820-2144 for non-emergency situations.

Shields said if a converter is stolen, the vehicle owner will know it when the vehicle is started as it will be very loud and sound as though it has no muffler. Victims should contact the Danville PD immediately.

Anyone with information on these thefts is encouraged to contact the Danville Police Department at (925) 314-3700.
