Advisory

Bensenville starts Quiet Zone on railroad crossings.

Hello everyone,

On behalf of the Chief of Police Frank Kosman, we want to let as many residents know as possible that a the Quiet Zone has began in Bensenville.

What does it mean? The trains will not use their horn when they are approaching. This also means pedestrians must be extra aware before crossing as well as remove their headphones to listen to the train.

The following are suggestions:
1. Obey all signals at these crossings, while driving or walking.
2. Remain behind the safety gate arms.
3. Do not attempt to cross as the safety gate arms lower or while bells or lights are activated.
4. Cross only on public designated crossings.
5. Turn off your cell phone or MP3 players when near the tracks. No texting or other distractions, since they can be deadly.
6. Do not rely on the scheduled arrivals of trains thinking you can still cross and beat the train.
7. Always EXPECT a train before crossing even when no other signals indicate otherwise.
8. IF YOU ARE USED TO HEARING THE HORNS OF APPROACHING TRAINS... QUIET ZONES ARE INTENDED TO REMOVE THAT SO YOU WILL NOT HEAR A HORN... SO YOU MUST RELY ON YOUR OWN COMMON SENSE AND PRECAUTIONS.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us. Operation LifeSaver is a place you can also visit for more information.
