Anderson Woman and Child Escape Serious Injury in Roll Over Crash

Madison County – An Anderson woman and a child escaped serious injury this morning after the car they were in rolled two to three times after leaving the right side of the roadway. The crash happened this morning around 7:40 a.m. on Madison County Road 200 South, just west of CR 600 W.

The preliminary investigation is that Jessica Chapman, age 35 of Anderson, was driving her 1995 Honda Civic west bound on CR 200 S when she swerved off the left side of the road to avoid a small animal in the roadway. When she attempted to steer her car back onto the roadway, she over corrected with her car crossing the road and leaving the right side of the roadway.

As the car left the right side of the roadway it rolled two to three times. Chapman, who was wearing her safety belt, was transported to Community Hospital in Anderson with a complaint of back pain.  A small child that was properly restrained in a booster seat in the back seat was uninjured.

Master Trooper Chris Noone, who investigated the crash, said that “the seat belt and child restraint were effective in preventing more serious injuries in this rollover crash.” Proper usage of seatbelts and child restraints reduce your risk of injury in a crash by 50%. Trooper Noone was assisted at the scene by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
