Incident: The Cape Horn Fire was reported at 12:28 p.m. on July 5
Location: Cape Horn on the southern end of Lake Pend Orielle

YESTERDAY’S ACTIVITY: Due to cooler temperatures and increased relative humidity yesterday, there was minimal fire growth. Firefighters made good progress building a fire line up to the ridge above Bayview.
TODAY’S WEATHER AND PLANNED ACTIVITY: There are Red flag warnings for thunderstorms from 12:00 pm -9:00 pm that could affect the Cape Horn area. There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Weather will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Light northeast wind increasing to 9 to 14 mph in the afternoon.. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. These conditions and dry fuels could contribute to increased fire activity today.
Bob Fry’s Western MontanaType II Incident Management Team is taking control of the fire today. Crews attempted burnout operations last night, July 6, to strengthen the fire line between the ridge above Bayview and the fire. Operations will focus on ensure that fire line will hold. Progress will be slow due to steep terrain.
RESOURCES ON THE FIRE: 2 airtankers, 2 helicopters, 3 fireboats, 2 sheriff boats Total personnel: 150,
SPECIAL CONCERNS: The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain and mixed conifer.
CLOSURES: Due to fire activity and to provide for public safety, the following roads are closed
· Highway 54: Closed at Farragut St. Park Visitor Center
· Perimeter Road: Closed at Sallee Creek Road
