Most thefts from cars and pickups involve UNLOCKED vehicles. Therefore we have a few very important recommendations for protecting your valuables:

1. Do not leave valuables where they are visible in the vehicle.
2. Always lock your vehicle, even in your own driveway.
3. If parked in a garage, keep the garage door closed.

Interviews with thieves who commit these type of thefts tell us that they typically wander the streets at night trying door handles on dozens of cars hoping to find unlocked vehicles. The suspects are usually in their teens or early twenties. If you see suspicious persons wandering in your neighborhood in the late evening or after dark please call Central Dispatch at (517) 546-9111.
