HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

At about 8:30 on the evening of Saturday, July 4^th, a 40 year-old female resident of San Mateo made contact with SMPD Officers in the front lobby of the San Mateo Police Department. The woman later identified as Brenda Martinez, alerted officers to a homicide in the unit block of North Claremont Street in San Mateo, and implicated herself as the suspect in the crime.

SMPD Officers then immediately responded to a residence in the unit block of North Claremont Street, where they located an unresponsive 66 year-old female inside the residence with obvious head trauma. The female was pronounced deceased at the scene. SMPD Detectives responded and are actively still investigating at this time. The case is being investigated as a homicide, and at this point all investigation points to the original reporting party to be the sole suspect in this crime. The suspect and victim were neighbors, and knew each other. SMPD Detectives also have the suspected murder weapon - a baseball bat. 

This appears to be an isolated incident, there are no suspects outstanding, and there is no further danger to the community related to this case. The release of the victim’s identity is under the jurisdiction of the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

Brenda MARTINEZ, a 40 year old female San Mateo resident, booked into San Mateo County Jail for Homicide.
