Drowning at Monte Rio Beach
On 7/4/15 at approximately 1220 hours, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Russian River’s Monte Rio Beach on the report that a person was potentially missing in the water. Upon arrival, the deputies learned that a raft containing two small children was found near the beach and that an adult male, who was previously in the raft, was missing. The deputies also obtained information leading them to believe the man was unable to swim and that he was not wearing a life jacket.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office dive team responded to the scene and conducted an underwater search for the man. At approximately 1652 hours, a deceased male was located on the bottom of the river a short distance downstream from the Monte Rio Beach.
At this time, the identity of the deceased will not be disclosed pending the confirmation of his identity as well as the notification of his next of kin.
