LAKE JAMES IS OPEN; only 3 areas affected by no-swim advisory; call 652-3982 with questions
Lake James is open.
The only areas affected by the health department’s no-swim advisory are North Fork River off American Thread Road in Woodlawn, Burnette’s Landing and Lake James Landing. In these three areas, people are advised to have no contact with the water at this time.
There are no advisories for any other areas of the lake.
Officials with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have been on the scene of the fish kill for two days and are still collecting samples and testing the water along the North Fork River, including the entry into Lake James.
Anyone with questions concerning the fish kill or lake access is asked to call 652-3982.
