Investigation into a fish kill on the North Fork River is ongoing. The substance in the river is still unknown, and a no-swimming advisory remains in effect for the river from American Thread Road in Woodlawn to Burnette’s and Lake James landings until further notice.
There are currently no advisories for all other sections of Lake James.
The Rutherford-Polk-McDowell Health Department issued the following guidelines for citizens and their pets:
-- No contact with river water or sediment
-- No recreational activities – such as kayaking – in or on the water
-- No consumption of fish, shellfish or other organisms such as frogs, turtles, etc
