Please be cautious and safe over the 4th of July weekend.

4th of July

On July 4, people across the country will come together and celebrate America’s independence. Many families will take the time to enjoy vacations, reunions, relaxing and hometown celebrations. Sometimes these times of celebration and joy can turn to scenes of tragedy.

As citizens and visitors of Jackson celebrate the 4th of July, “the Jackson Police Department wants everyone to be cautious and exercise safety, said Police Chief Julian Wiser. “The Jackson Police Department will increase patrols in an effort to respond to calls for service and to ensure the people celebrating the Fourth are as safe as possible. The Jackson Police Department will conduct DUI (Driving under the Influence) checkpoints and saturation details throughout the 4th of July weekend in an effort to deter drinking and driving.”

Many news outlets are reporting increased threats from ISIS during this 4th of July weekend. However, “The City of Jackson has not been alerted to any known or credible threats of an attack,” said Captain Mike Siler of Homeland Security. Captain Siler encourages the citizens of Jackson to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings, but most of all, to enjoy the weekend.

The Jackson Police Department encourages the citizens of Jackson to work with the department to help make this 4th of July one of the safest by exercising safety, said Chief Wiser. “If a citizen observes something that seems out of the ordinary, we ask you to report it to the proper authorities.”
