LASD South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station/Lawndale, zero tolerance on illegal fireworks

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, South Los Angeles Station/Lawndale Service Center deputies, working with the City of Lawndale will have a zero tolerance for illegal fireworks this 4th of July.

Safe and Sane fireworks are legal in the City of Lawndale; however, any firework that does not have a Safe and Sane logo on it is illegal. They are basically any firework that shoots in the air.

Safe and Sane fireworks can be used from noon on July 4th until 1:00a.m. on July 5. Illegal fireworks cannot be used at anytime.

Enforcement has been doubled this year. If deputies see anyone in possession of illegal fireworks or discharging illegal fireworks, they will be issued an expensive citation or arrested.

All fireworks can be dangerous; however, illegal fireworks have more of a potential of causing injuries and fire. It is the intent of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the City of Lawndale to make the 4th of July enjoyable and safe for the residents of Lawndale.

Lieutenant Hocking said, "We want people to know that illegal fireworks are a crime and if you are caught with them, you will have a court date and have to pay costly fines."
